THE AUTHOR

David Baker

David Baker is a probate attorney, licensed in New York and Illinois. He’s the senior member of the Country’s largest group of Estate and Trust lawyers, at one of the America’s biggest law firms, where he’s worked for forty-two years. There, he started and now heads the country’s largest practice group that focuses on contested estate, trust and guardianship cases.  He also started and then ran the firm’s Pro Bono program for many years.

He’s been writing and speaking for decades on topics related to his practice, including a practitioner’s guide for handling estate and trust litigation. His professional outlines have been reprinted hundreds of times by professional publications, such as his often-quoted "Bullet-Proofing Your Estate Plan," an Illinois Continuing Legal Education standard. He is the lead attorney on over a dozen published Appellate Court Opinions in his area of practice, and has litigated some of the highest-profile cases in the field of Estate and Trust litigation.

He was born in 1954 near the West Side of Chicago, where he’s developed a knack for trying just about everything: By the time he’d graduated law school, Baker had worked as a Bicycle Mechanic; an Automobile Mechanic; a Card-Carrying Cabinet Maker; an Audio Technician and Repairman; a Grade-School Special Education Teacher; a Campus Security Guard; and Delivery Truck Driver. He’s also run an independent record label and been a non-degreed Seminary student.

Death Is No Excuse is his first published book. His first novel, Patriot Acts, is due out in Spring of 2022.
